One of the Barrie Colts co-captains from this past year will be switching NHL uniforms after a major trade by the team that drafted him. Cole Beaudoin was traded by the Utah Mammoth to the New York Rangers on Wednesday in a deal to land veteran centre Vincent Trocheck. Beaudoin, 20, spent all four years of his OHL career with the Colts and was selected at 24th overall by the Mammoth in the first round of the 2024 NHL Entry Draft. He led the Colts with 89 points this past season and 29 points in the playoffs despite having his postseason cut short in the Eastern Conference Final due to injury. His tremendous season earned him honours that included OHL Sportsman of the Year, OHL Second-Team All-Star and CHL Third-Team All-Star. Trocheck, 32, served as a crucial second line player for the Rangers over the past four seasons, highlighted by totalling a career high of 77 points in 2023-24. The Mammoth are also sending defenceman Sean Durzi and a 2027 third-round pick to New York in the trade.
