Closed circuit cameras will be installed across Caledon to halt gang violence

Guns and gang violence will take a hit when Caledon installs new Closed Circuit Television (CCTV) cameras.

In a joint proposal between the Caledon Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) and the Town of Caledon, the ministry of the solicitor general is granting $254,000 towards the new cameras.

“This program reflects our commitment to building safe, connected communities. The cameras will help protect public infrastructure, support traffic investigations, and provide real-time data to the OPP, all while respecting residents’ privacy,” said Mayor Annette Groves.

The installation of the CCTV cameras begins during the next few weeks and will be operational by the end of November.

The cameras are intended for investigative purposes.

To ensure transparency, all camera locations will be clearly marked to advise the public that the area is under surveillance.

Similar CCTV cameras are being installed across the province, from Windsor and Sarnia-Lambton to Waterloo, Niagara Region and Kenora.

In addition to the public CCTVs, the CAMSafe program asks residents and businesses to register their private security cameras to create a network enabling police to request footage during investigations.
