Cat dies in MacTier trailer fire as owner attempts rescue

One person suffered injuries while attempting to rescue their cat from a burning trailer in MacTier.

On Tuesday, firefighters responded to a blaze in the Township of Georgian Bay to find a trailer full of flames. Despite the person’s hard efforts to retrieve their pet, the cat perished in the fire.

The intense heat from the blaze caused damage to a nearby home, though firefighters were able to prevent the flames from spreading further.

Officials say, 14 firefighters were on scene to battle the trailer fire. The cause remains under investigation but is not believed to be suspicious.

Damage is estimated at approximately $40,000 according to Tony Van Dam, the director of fire and emergency services, with the Township of Georgian Bay.
