Cancellations and closures across the region for Fri., Jan. 23

The winter weather is wreaking havoc on Simcoe County prompting many community services, program and events to be cancelled.

Environment Canada says we could get up to 30 centimetres of snow across Simcoe County with windchill levels at minus 30 on Friday.

Here are the latest closures around the region:

Oro-Medonte facilities

The Township Administration Centre is closing at 3 p.m., the Oro-Medonte Community Arena is closed and the Simcoe Woods Community Centre is closed. Children in the PM Play Club need to get picked up at the end of the school day.

Town of Collingwood facilities

The Centennial Aquatic Centre pool will be closing early today, which means the Free Open Swim scheduled Friday night is cancelled.

The Central Park Outdoor Rink is temporarily closing as of 4 p.m. with an expected reopening time on Monday at 10 a.m. weather permitting.

Lakehead University

All in-person classes, exams and activities at Lakehead’s Orillia Campus are cancelled, but the campus remains open. Online learning activities will continue.

Penetanguishene Centennial Museum

The Town of Penetanguishene says it is delaying the opening of the museum as it is snowed in. Staff are plowing the parking lot and shovelling the laneways.

Clearview Town facilities

The Clearview Township Administration Centre on Gideon Street in Stayner and Clearview Public Library branches will close at 2 p.m.

The Stayner and Creemore Arenas will close at 3 p.m.

Chapman’s Ice Cream

Chapman’s Ice Cream has cancelled all afternoon and evening shifts.

Snow Valley Resort

Friday and Saturday lessons will be postponed. This includes 6 Winter Nights, 8 Winter Weekends, 6 Winter Weekends, All Race Programs including League Racing and 1,2,3 Learn to Ski/Ride. The programs will continue one week beyond the original end date.

Innovation Awards

The City of Barrie Mayor’s Innovation Awards scheduled for Friday night has been cancelled and the winners will be confirmed at a later date.
