Breathing a fresh, clean air sigh of relief: Environment Canada lifts air quality warning

Simcoe County residents woke up to much cleaner air Sunday morning as much of the wildfire smoke from northwestern Ontario has blown out of the region – at least for now.

After being under an orange or yellow warning from Environment Canada for a few days, the national weather centre has removed all warnings with the air quality index currently sitting at a 1 or low risk as of Sunday morning.

“Enjoy your usually outdoor activities,” says Environment Canada.

A welcome, sunny and blue sky is blanketing the region as we get up to a comfortable high of 21 C.

If you’re headed outdoors to soak up the rays, you’ll want sun protection as the UV index is at a 7 or high.

You’ll want a light sweater later as the temperature will dip to a low of 12 C for Sunday night making it feel cooler than what we’ve been used to.

The cooler conditions won’t last long as the humidity makes a return Monday with many parts of the region expected to feel like 30 C.

The national weather centre forecasts low risk air quality indexes for Monday also.
