Barrie residents buckle up; major road work ahead

18 kilometres of roadway in Barrie is on track to get a touch up before the end of the year, the city says.

The city says a number of resurfacing projects will be underway, in hopes of extending the life of existing roads, improving driving conditions and reducing the need for additional road rehabilitation work later down the line.

Crews from the city will be tackling cracking, rutting and general deterioration on the upper layers of the roadway across many of the city’s major roads, including Bayfield Street, Clapperton Street, Collier Street and Ross Street in the downtown area.

Bayview Drive between Mapleview Drive and Lockhart Road will also be subject to resurfacing work this year.

Downtown Barrie

Your commute to or from downtown Barrie might be a bit longer than usual, as residents can expect road work on Bayfield Street between Simcoe Street to Sophia Street, Clapperton Street from Dunlop Street West to Collier Street and Collier Street from Bayfield Street to Mulcaster Street.

Additional resurfacing work will be underway at Livingstone Street West from Bayfield Street to Sunnidale Road, Ross Street from Bayfield Street to Sophia Street and Cundles Road East from St. Vincent Street to Bayfield Street.

For those in the area, residents are urged to be mindful of work going on along Belcourt Avenue, Davies Crescent and Milne Court.

Cundles Neighbourhood

For those living in the Cundles neighbourhood, give yourself some extra time when you hit the roads, as roadwork will be under way at Coles Street between Livingstone Street East to Gloria Street, as well as Craig Crescent from Ford Street to Gloria Street and Gloria Street from Lillian Crescent to Kozlov Street.

Residents can also expect delays around Heather Street from Bayfield Street to Oren Boulevard, Kozlov Street from Heather Street to Livingstone Street West, Noam Drive from Gloria Street to Lillian Crescent and Wells Crescent from Gloria Street to Coles Street.

Neighbourhood streets such as Hilderbrandt Court and Oren Boulevard will also be getting worked on.

Letitia Heights and South Barrie

If you find yourself in the Letitia Heights or South Barrie area, keep an eye out for roadwork being done on Bayview Drive from Mapleview Drive East to Lockhart Road.

Broadfoot Road, Eden Drive, Fox Run, Hemingway Crescent and Little Avenue will also be subject to roadwork as well.
