Are you prepared for the winter season? Here’s a few safety tips and reminders from OPP

It’s that time of year when temperatures begin to drop and snow blankets the greens.

Members of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) are emphasizing the importance of preparing for the upcoming winter season.

“Slippery roads, reduced visibility, and changing conditions require extra caution,” stated police in a media release.

Here are several proactive measures from the OPP that can help minimize the risk of traffic incidents, particularly during icy and snowy conditions.

Install winter tires for improved traction and control, and schedule routine maintenance checks, including brakes, battery, fluids, and heating systems.

Always make sure windshield wipers and defrosters are functioning properly, and keep a close emergency kit in your vehicle (including blankets, a flashlight, and non-perishable snacks.)

Adjust your driving to meet the conditions of the road and remain focused on other vehicles around you. Stay alert by slowing down and increasing your following distance, especially in wintry conditions.

Avoid braking suddenly, always use your headlights in low visibility, and give yourself extra time to reach your destination.
