When Natasha Dunn Kvederas was growing up in rural P.E.I., there was only one channel on TV. She remembers watching Atlantic Grand Prix Wrestling, which began her love for the sport. “The Cuban Assassin was always my favourite wrestler, I just loved how he came out, he was a character, and he was, you know, evil. It was great,” she says. Kvederas is a professional wrestler, beginning her career at 47-years-old. “It’s a little hard,” she says, noting her body might not respond the same way her 18-year-old classmates do. “Sometimes I just have to say I’m sitting this one out.” But Kvederas says she plays up her age in her appearance on "The Ropes“, an award-nominated Bell Fibe series following a dysfunctional family of backyard wrestlers. “I’m the librarian in the episode, so I am a demure librarian during the day and a psychotic wrestler on the weekends,” she explains. Her wrestling persona on the show is the Bad Nanny, who uses a wooden spoon to beat people in the ring. “There’s a lot of comedy in [The Ropes], of course, but there’s always, like, some really good family feels to it, because this family is so obsessed with backyard wrestling, they actually lose their backyard in a wrestling match, so now they’re trying to win their backyard back,” Kvederas says.
