The Prince Edward Island government is spending $5 million to make sure the cameras roll on Netflix’s adaptation of the best-selling book “This Summer Will be Different.” Earlier this year, Netflix ordered a 10-episode series of Canadian author Carley Fortune’s book, which is set on the Island. It will be shot in P.E.I. and Toronto. The Prince Edward Island Film Production Fund is spending $5 million on the project, which is expected to grow the province’s movie industry. “Carley Fortune’s bestseller is a love letter to the Island, and working with Netflix on this important joint venture is our way of returning that sentiment by investing in our people and province,” said Jenn Redmond, the minister of economic development, trade and artificial intelligence, in a news release. “PEI’s creative sector is full of potential and ready for opportunity. By bringing a global production of this scale to our red shores, we are making a strategic and definitive decision to grow a healthy, diversified economy. “Millions of dollars will be injected into the local economy, jobs will be created, and our high-quality agriculture, seafood products, and incredible coastal landscapes will be featured to millions of screens across the world.” Production on the show is expected to start in the coming weeks. “This Summer Will be Different” follows a woman who falls in love during a visit to P.E.I.
