WestJet aircraft’s tail touches ground during takeoff in Halifax

A WestJet plane’s tail touched the ground during takeoff in Halifax on Tuesday, resulting in a diversion to Montreal.

Flight WS577, which was bound for Edmonton “experienced minor tail contact during takeoff,” according to Julia Kaiser, media relations advisor with WestJet.

“The aircraft was safely diverted to Montreal Trudeau International Airport, where it is currently undergoing a maintenance inspection,” Kaiser said in an email. No injuries have been reported as a result of the occurrence.

“All impacted guests have been reaccommodated on a different aircraft and will arrive in Edmonton today.”

Liam MacDonald, media relations coordinator with the Transportation Board of Canada, said they received a report that the aft fuselage of the aircraft “made contact with the ground” just after 7 a.m. Tuesday.
