Two people dead after vehicles collide head-on near Shelburne, N.S.

Two people died in a highway crash near Shelburne, N.S., on Tuesday.

Two people are dead after two vehicles collided and one caught fire near Shelburne, N.S., Monday afternoon.

The RCMP responded to the two-vehicle collision on Highway 103 around 1:15 p.m.

Police say a black Volkswagen Jetta and a yellow Ford F-150 collided head-on. The Ford was engulfed in flames and the Volkswagen was badly damaged when first responders arrived on scene.

The driver of the Volkswagen, a 42-year-old woman from Clyde River, and the driver of the Ford, a 32-year-old man from Williamswood, both died at the scene. They were the only people inside the vehicles.

The RCMP says a collision reconstructionist and Nova Scotia Department of Public Works attended the scene.

“The investigation is ongoing with support from the Nova Scotia Medical Examiner Service,” said police in a news release.

“The Nova Scotia Department of Labour, Skills and Immigration was notified because a work vehicle was involved.”

The RCMP and the labour department are both investigating the collision.

The highway was closed for several hours but has since reopened.
