Puck pursuit: How you can be part of a Sidney Crosby exhibit in Halifax

Sidney Crosby fans have a chance to put their name on hockey history - at the Nova Scotia Sport Hall of Fame.

If you’ve ever wanted to be in the Nova Scotia Sport Hall of Fame, you now have a chance.

It’s in the process of redesigning its hockey section, which will feature an exhibit celebrating Cole Harbour’s own Sidney Crosby. As part of the display, there will be hundreds of pucks surrounding Crosby’s dinged-up family dryer from his youth.

“Not every Hall of Fame has a famous dryer. We do,” said Bruce Rainnie, Nova Scotia Sport Hall of Fame president and CEO.

“The dryer, when we reopen, it will be a centerpiece exhibit here at the Hall of Fame. When we were open in the past, it was very, very popular, so we know people are going to congregate around here and take a look at this.”

Fans will have the chance to be part of the display this time around through the museum’s ‘Puck Pursuit.’

“We thought it’s a neat way for people in the community that love him, as we all do, to get involved and have their name tied to this exhibit and it will be there forever,” said Rainnie. “As long as it’s here, your name will be tied to the puck that you purchase.”

There is a total of 654 pucks up for grabs – one for each regular season NHL goal Crosby has scored so far. Each puck costs $50 and the money will help support the redevelopment of the Hall of Fame’s exhibits.

A few special milestone numbers are being held from the sale for now.

“The only puck numbers you can’t purchase are the numbers one; that’s a special one, 87 we’re going to give to him, and then 100, 200, 300, 400, 500, 600, we’re going to put those up as special auction later this summer,” he said.

There’s no doubt Crosby still has lots of goals left in him, and the Nova Scotia Sport Hall of Fame is counting on that.

“As he scores more, this exhibit gets bigger. If we have to add space, we will. That will be our problem at the time, and a good one to have,” said Rainnie. “This exhibit will follow what he does in terms of goals scored in the regular season.”

The Nova Scotia Sport Hall of Fame hasn’t yet set a grand reopening date, but it’s hoping to open as soon as possible. “For now, what we’re doing is building this so when we do open, this exhibit is ready to go.”
