Peak tourism season beginning in Nova Scotia

Tourism Nova Scotia chats with Crystal Garrett about the outlook for the summer season in the province.

With Nova Scotia’s peak tourism season beginning, events like SailGP have led to a strong start for one of the province’s most important sectors.

The tourism industry is one of the largest factors in the province’s economy, with revenues from 2025 reaching $3.7 billion.

“It is a really critical contributor, not only to the economy of Nova Scotia, but it’s also critically important from a social perspective. You just talked about the importance to the economy, $3.7 billion, and that supports more than 55,000 jobs in Nova Scotia, and we’re talking across the province,” said Anna Moran with Tourism Nova Scotia in an interview with CTV Your Morning Atlantic’s Crystal Garrett.

“Tourism in Nova Scotia creates those vibrant communities that makes Nova Scotia such a wonderful place to live.”

Moran says while it’s still too early to determine exactly how strong the season will be, early indicators such as increased air traffic is showing promise.

“It’s a little early for the number crunching to happen so we don’t have those indicators like tourism revenues and accommodations demands yet, but what we do is we reach out and we talk to tourism businesses and organizations across the province and they’re telling us bookings are really, really strong for this year. We’re also seeing increased air capacity coming into Halifax Stanfield International Airport from international markets, and when you have that direct access from a market into Nova Scotia, it makes it that much easier for a visitor to get here,” she said.

With the season just beginning, Moran adds the true charm of the province comes from the people who live here.

“The people that live and work here, they really are the icing on the cake of the Nova Scotia experience. People come here to see and do and play and go in the water, visit the museums, drive the Cabot Trail, but the warm welcome and embrace that they get from Nova Scotia, it just seals that entire experience for them.”
