The federal government is offering $13.8 million over the next three years to support hundreds of Nova Scotia workers impacted by the ongoing tariffs. The Workforce Tariff Response Fund will be available to up to 1,572 workers in export-related industries such as steel, softwood lumber, agri-food and fisheries and seafood. “Global tariffs and market changes are creating uncertainty for some industries, and we’re stepping up to help,” said Nolan Young, Nova Scotia minister of labour, skills and immigration, in a news release. “We’re making sure Nova Scotians have the training, support and opportunities they need to keep working, build new skills and move into new opportunities.” The support will focus on helping unemployed workers gaining skills for in-demand jobs and employed workers who need new skills to stay competitive. According to the news release, the federal government spends more than $100 million annually in Nova Scotia through labour market agreements.
