N.S. man wanted for assault, confinement since June has been arrested: RCMP

A Nova Scotia man who was wanted for assault and unlawful confinement has been found four months after a warrant was issued for his arrest.

The RCMP told CTV News Atlantic that 47-year-old Andrew Barker was arrested in New Minas, N.S., on Thursday. He was set to appear in court on Friday.

Barker is facing the following charges:

• unlawful confinement
• assault
• assault with a weapon
• administer or cause drugs to be taken
• uttering threats
• robbery
• theft of a motor vehicle

A warrant for the Hants County man was issued in June, with police warning the public that he could be armed.

A possible sighting of Barker prompted a heavy police presence on MacDonald Street in New Glasgow, N.S., the night of June 24.

Officers contained the area and told residents to shelter in place while they searched for the wanted man.

Police said they found Barker’s red Fiat, but they failed to locate him at the time.
