N.S. man sentenced to 6 years for manufacturing 3D-printed firearms: CBSA

A Nova Scotian man has been sentenced to six years in jail for making 3D-printed firearms.

Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) says they intercepted a package containing a firearm part called a “fire control unit” in the Greater Toronto Area on Friday.

CBSA says the package arrived from an international courier from China and was on its way to an individual in Dartmouth, N.S. CBSA worked with the RCMP in Halifax for the investigation.

“This criminal conviction is the result of excellent collaboration between the Canada Border Services Agency and local law enforcement,” said Public Safety Minister Gary Anandasangaree in a news release.

Police say 36-year-old Joseph Wayne Bowser was arrested following a controlled delivery of the package and search warrants on two homes.

Bowser was found guilty on several charges including:

• weapons trafficking, manufacturing (three counts)
• possession of computer data pertaining to a firearm
• altering a non-prohibited cartridge magazine into a prohibited device
• possession of firearm contrary to prohibition order (three counts)

Through further investigation, CBSA says it was found Bowser was involved in the manufacturing of 3D-printed firearms.
