N.S. man charged with stealing flatbed trailer from Enfield gas station

A 46-year-old man has been charged with the theft of a flatbed trailer from an Enfield, N.S, gas station last week.

Police responded to the theft of a work truck and the trailer at the 6700 block of Highway 2 around 10:06 p.m. on Sept. 11, according to a news release from the RCMP.

Officers learned a man got into the truck and drove away at a high rate of speed. Police tracked the vehicle’s location through its OnStar. They found the truck on Jackson Drive in Wellington, at which point the suspect allegedly fled the scene.

“Officers followed and authorized OnStar to enable the slow-down function,” the release reads. “The stolen truck and trailer came to a stop in the 5500 block of Hwy. 2, Grand Lake, and the driver, 46-year-old Adam Joseph Dunford, was safely arrested.”

Police gathered evidence suggesting Dunford was impaired and he later failed a roadside screening device.

Dunford, from Oldham, was charged with:

• theft of a motor vehicle
• flight from a peace officer
• possession of property obtained by crime
• mischief over $5,000
• dangerous operation of a motor vehicle
• operation while prohibited
• impaired operation of a motor vehicle
• failure to comply with a probation order

Dunford was remanded into custody and he was scheduled to appear in court on Thursday.
