The Nova Scotia government is spending $100,000 for upgrades to the North Preston Day Care Centre. Part of the upgrades to the 54-year-old day care includes installing a new energy-efficient electric heat pump system, as the building is currently heated by an oil-filtered boiler and baseboard radiators from the 1970s. “This daycare means so much to North Preston, and this funding will help make sure it remains that way for years to come,” said African Nova Scotian Affairs Minister Twila Grosse in the announcement on Tuesday. “Investing in the North Preston Day Care Centre is an investment in the future of this historic African Nova Scotian community. We are helping strengthen an important community space so it can continue to provide a safe, comfortable and welcoming place to learn, grow and thrive for the next generations.” Grosse, said the spending would also go toward upgrades like solar panels, new insulation, windows and doors and energy-efficient light fixtures.
