The Nova Scotia government is spending $620,000 to expand Cape Breton farm equipment rental programs. The Cape Breton-Richmond Federation of Agriculture and the Inverness/Victoria Federation of Agriculture will receive the money to update their rental programs. Cape Breton-Richmond will get $330,000 for: Inverness/Victoria will receive $290,000 for cattle-handling, forage, tilling and manure management equipment, along with a new software system to better manage rentals. The Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency is pitching in $149,976 to Cape Breton-Richmond and $150,000 to Inverness/Victoria. “The machinery rental program has been providing rental equipment for many years, and as the cost of owning these pieces of machinery has increased, the rental program has become more important to local farmers,” said Rodney Beaton, board member with Inverness/Victoria, in a news release from the province. “We had over 50 farms using rental machines last year and expect that to increase this year.
