Nova Scotia’s film industry is taking centre stage, with two productions filmed in the province hitting number one on streaming platforms. “We’re now looking at season four of ‘From,’ which is filming right now, that’s a great show. We’re in production of season four of ‘Sullivan’s Crossing,’ but season three just hit number one on Netflix. So, two shows hitting number one on Netflix from Nova Scotia this year is something to celebrate,” said executive director of Screen Nova Scotia Laura MacKenzie in an interview with CTV Morning Live’s Crystal Garrett on Thursday. MacKenzie said the new season of Sullivan’s Crossing is being filmed in Screen Nova Scotia’s new studio. “We bought it in March and renovated it over the past five months to be an industry standard soundstage.” MacKenzie says two Nova Scotia films will be having their world premiere at the upcoming Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF). “We’re going to see the world premiere of ‘At the Places of Ghosts’ which is a local Indigenous feature film. ‘Little Lorraine’ which was shot in Cape Breton based on the song by Adam Baldwin is going to have its world premiere at TIFF next week as well and then again at the Atlantic Film Festival the week after.” All these productions are having an incredible impact on our region, said MacKenzie. “We got thousands of people who are actually on set working on these projects and there is all of the spin off jobs when productions go into a town, and they inject all of their production budgets right into all of the small businesses that are there,” she said. “Right now is a big scouting season. We have a lot of studios coming in and working with Screen Nova Scotia and we set them up with a locations manager, put them in a car and take them around Nova Scotia and show off some of the locations that we think would make good sense for the script that they have. I’m sure we will see another busy season next year as well.” For more Nova Scotia news, visit our dedicated provincial page
