‘No trespassing’ signs to be installed in Bedford, N.S., park bordering ammunition depot

Those who frequent Admiral Cove Park in Bedford, N.S., will soon notice new signage.

The Department of National Defence (DND) says “no trespassing” signs will be installed along the western perimeter of the Canadian Forces Ammunition (CFAD) Depot.

The signs will be installed at 90-metre intervals along the property boundary.

After the signs are installed, the public will not be allowed to enter the CFAD Bedford via Admiral Cove Park.

Access to the eastern loop of the park will also be cut off. DND says that section of the hiking trail system encroaches on DND/CFAD Bedford property.

Any trail flags and markers on DND property will also be removed.

“Trespassing at CFAD Bedford is unsafe and can impact the ammunition depot’s licensed storage limits,” reads a DND news release.

“Increasing public awareness of the depot’s western property line and discouraging unauthorized access through clearly posted signage are essential for public safety and will support current and future Canadian Armed Forces capabilities and operations, including support to new fleets and ammunition compatibility requirements.”

The Forces say Admiral Cove Park is a “valued recreational and urban wilderness area” and efforts will be made to try and minimize any disruptions.
