The Mi’kmaw Native Friendship Centre (MNFC) is celebrating the completion of a new installation called “The Fence Project.” The fence surrounding the new Wije’winen Centre in Halifax has been transformed with hand-decorated wooden pieces, each representing a memory, perspective or experience that represents the story of the MNFC and the Indigenous community. “Although the puzzle pieces will first be installed on the construction fence, they are intended to become a permanent part of the new centre,” reads a news release from the friendship centre. “Once the Wije’winen Centre opens, all of our individual puzzle pieces will be brought together to form a complete artwork, symbolizing how our many unique stories come together as one community.” Last week students from the Dalhousie Free Lab, along with OSO planning + design and the Every One Every Day team, prepared the fence, organized the site, then completed the installation Friday.
