Man, woman charged after Truro, N.S., police seize homemade taser

Two people are facing weapons charges after police in Truro, N.S., say they found a homemade conducted energy weapon, commonly known as a taser, in their possession.

Officers with the Truro Police Service responded to a hotel on Wednesday to arrest a man and woman for failing to comply with court-imposed release orders.

“During the investigation, officers located a homemade, improvised conducted energy weapon,” said Truro police.

Stephen Wood, 43, and Ashley MacKenzie-Wright, 42, both from Pictou County, have each been charged with the following offences:

• four counts of failing to comply with a release order
• possession of a prohibited weapon
• possession of a prohibited weapon knowing its possession is prohibited
• possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose
• possession of a prohibited weapon contrary to an order

Wood and MacKenzie-Wright appeared in Truro provincial court on Wednesday.

Wood was remanded into custody.

MacKenzie-Wright was released on court-ordered conditions.
