Man facing attempted murder charge after shots fired at woman in East Preston: N.S. RCMP

A man is facing attempted murder charges after shots were fired in East Preston, N.S., Thursday.

Police say a man is facing several charges, including attempted murder, after shots were fired at a woman in East Preston, N.S., Thursday morning.

RCMP officers responded to a report of shots fired at a vehicle in the 1600 block of Highway 7 around 8:45 a.m.

Police say a woman was driving south on the road when a man got out of his vehicle and fired shots in her direction.

The woman was not injured.

Police say the man, who is known to the woman, fled the scene.

The man was found at a home on Lake Loon Road and taken into custody.

Colin Edward O’Malley of Lake Loon is charged with:

• attempted murder
• discharging firearm with intent
• discharge firearm – recklessness
• careless use of a firearm
• pointing a firearm
• possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose
• carrying concealed weapon
• unauthorized possession of a firearm
• possession of firearm knowing possession unauthorized
• possession of restricted firearm with ammunition
• possession of break-in instrument
• fail to comply with release order (two counts)

The 42-year-old was held in custody and is scheduled to appear in Dartmouth provincial court on Friday.

Police say the incident was an act of intimate partner violence.

The investigation is ongoing.
