An iconic Nova Scotia restaurant is throwing itself a birthday bash to mark 86 years in business. Chickenburger opened in Bedford, N.S., in 1940 and has been serving up chickenburgers, hamburgers, fries and milkshakes for the last eight decades. Known for its retro neon lights and old-school juke box, the restaurant has built a reputation as a favourite dining spot for locals and tourists. In honour of its 86th birthday, Chickenburger has planned a weeklong celebration that includes 86 cent cheeseburgers for the first 150 people in line Tuesday, beginning at 5 p.m. “For over 86 years, the Chickenburger has been at the heart of Bedford, creating lasting memories for generations. This celebration is our way of saying thank you to our customers, staff and community who make the Chickenburger special,” said Mickey MacDonald, owner of the Chickenburger, in a news release. The Chickenburger will top off the week of festivities by hosting a birthday party on Sunday from noon to 3 p.m., complete with cake and games.
