A 43-year-old man has been charged for several offences, including arson, in relation to a series of incidents in Eastern Passage, N.S. Police say they responded to a disturbance on Blockade Circle on July 14, which involved an “agitated man armed with a hammer.” “Officers learned the man had threatened neighbours, damaged property and threatened to burn down his house,” reads a news release from RCMP on Friday. Police arrested the man at the scene, brought him to hospital for assessment and later released him. Days later, officers received a report of a man walking a dog and harming the animal near Cow Bay Road and Garrison Drive on July 18. Police say they were unable to attend and the matter was referred to Halifax Animal Services and the SPCA. Then on Tuesday around 9:10 p.m., officers responded to a disturbance and property damage complaint at a home in the 0-100 block of Blockade Circle. “They learned an internet cable connected to a neighbouring residence had been ripped away and the person responsible had fled on foot,” says RCMP. When police arrived, they heard a fire alarm and saw smoke coming from a nearby home. They entered the home and used an extinguisher until fire crews arrived. Police say evidence they gathered through a search warrant determined the fire was intentionally set. Jason Andrew Whelan of Eastern Passage was arrested later on Tuesday.
