Close to 15,000 Nova Scotia Power customers in Cumberland, Colchester and Pictou counties were without power Monday afternoon. According to Nova Scotia Power’s outage map, roughly 4,841 customers in the Tatamagouche area and 9,977 customers in the Truro area were affected by the outage as of 3:30 p.m. By 6:30 p.m., power was restored for customers in the areas. The cause of the outage was listed as a “transmission interruption.” “A damaged insulator at a substation in Truro caused the outage,” said Jacqueline Foster, a spokesperson for the utility, in an email. “An insulator is a device that safely connects the power lines to poles or steel structures.” Foster says the Truro substation also serves customers in the Tatamagouche area and crews were on site working to restore power.
