A woman is facing charges after she allegedly struck an employee with a shopping cart while trying to steal from a store in Port Hawkesbury, N.S. The RCMP responded to a report of a theft and an assault at a business on Reeves Street around 4:50 p.m. Sunday. “A woman attempted to leave the store with an item that had not been paid for and was stopped by a staff member,” said police in a news release Wednesday. “During the altercation, the employee received non-life-threatening injuries after being struck with a shopping cart and knocked to the ground.” Police say the woman fled the scene but was later arrested along Highway 4. The 31-year-old woman from Louisdale is facing theft and assault-related charges. She was released from custody and is due to appear in Port Hawkesbury provincial court at a later date.
