Amherst, N.S., man arrested after allegedly resisting police, spitting on officer

An Amherst, N.S., man is facing multiple charges after he allegedly resisted arrest and spat in the face of an officer early Tuesday morning.

Police responded to a residential building in downtown Amherst after receiving reports of a man allegedly making threats and damaging a door just before 3 a.m., according to a news release from the Town of Amherst.

The man, who was on court release conditions, was arrested and put in police cells overnight.

Avery Grassing, 27, was charged with:

• assault on a police officer
• resisting arrest
• uttering threats to cause death
• mischief under $5,000
• two counts of failure to comply with undertaking conditions

Grassing was scheduled to appear in court on Tuesday.
