Trial date set for man accused of murdering two Saint John, N.B., boys

Roman Kamyshnyy was charged with two counts of first-degree murder after a double homicide on Jan. 29.

A Saint John, N.B., man accused of killing two youths earlier this year now has a date for his trial.

Forty-five-year old Roman Kamyshnyy made a telephone appearance at the King’s Bench in the Saint John Law Courts on Monday. He received a trial date for June 8 to 26, 2026.

The accused is facing two charges of first-degree murder in the deaths of two boys – aged 10 and 17 – on Jan. 29 in the city’s north end.

On that day, Saint John Police were called to an apartment on Skaling Court around 7 a.m. Police immediately forced their way into the home, where they found the bodies of the two boys. They also found Kamyshnyy, who was taken to the Saint John Regional Hospital with life-threatening injuries.

The identities of the victims have not been publicly released due to a publication ban.

Kamyshnyy was initially set to pencil in a date Monday for a preliminary inquiry, but Crown prosecutors filed a direct indictment to move the matter directly to trial.

A pre-trial conference will be held on June 9 this year. The judge has also set dates for pre-trial “voir dire” from Dec. 8 to 15.

A voir dire is a separate hearing to help determine the admissibility of certain piece of evidence.
