Saint John man accused of stealing vehicle, forcing driver into trunk: N.B. RCMP

A 52-year-old man from Saint John, N.B., is facing charges after he allegedly stole a vehicle and forced the driver to get into the trunk.

Grand Bay-Westfield RCMP responded to a report of a vehicle theft in the Bloomfield, N.B., area around 9:10 p.m. on Oct. 1.

“The incident is believed to have occurred when an individual used an edged weapon to gain access to an occupied vehicle. The individual forced the driver, and sole occupant of the vehicle, into the trunk,” said the RCMP in a news release.

“The driver was released a few hours later. The individual fled the scene.”

The RCMP and Saint John Police identified and arrested the suspect at a business on Coburg Street in Saint John on Oct. 7.

Joseph Jude Gallant has been charged with robbery and forcible confinement in connection with the incident.

Gallant appeared in court in Saint John on Thursday. He was remanded into custody and is due back in court on Thursday.
