Police conclude operation in Moncton after assault reported in Scoudouc, N.B.

A large police presence in a Moncton, N.B., neighbourhood Sunday stemmed from an incident earlier in the day northeast of the city.

Police set up a containment area and advised the public of an operation in Moncton on social media after locating a suspect who they believed could be in possession of a firearm.

Shediac RCMP responded to a report of an assault at approximately 2 a.m. in Scoudouc, N.B., said police. The suspect, who is known to police, allegedly left the scene before they arrived.

RCMP asked people to avoid a Moncton neighbourhood just after 9 a.m. Sunday when they located the suspect’s vehicle on Lori-Lynn Court, said RCMP in an email to CTV News.

At the time, police asked people to “avoid the area and allow police to work,” but did not disclose details.

They confirmed the “police operation” concluded around 2 p.m.

RCMP said no arrests were made but they believe the incident was isolated and there is no risk to the public.
