Police in Fredericton are searching for suspects following a copper wire theft last month. Police said the theft happened on Saturday, Jan. 17 between 1 and 4 a.m. near 400 Cliffe Street. “This theft caused significant damage and widespread outages and led to an outage of our non-emergency phone lines, which caused a serious public safety concern,” said police in a news release Friday. On the day of the theft, the non-emergency lines experienced issues until 6:50 p.m. Police said they believe there are at least two suspects involved. It’s possible they may have been using an ATV, as police said the K9 Unit tracked their path to a dirt road in the area. The Fredericton Police Force is asking anyone with information on this incident or anyone who may have security camera footage from around the time of the theft to call 506-460-2300 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
