A section of a highway in southern New Brunswick has reopened one week after a large fuel spill. A tanker truck rolled over on Route 1 near Nauwigewauk on April 8, spilling an estimated 36,000 litres of fuel. Police closed Route 1 at kilometre marker 152, between Hampton and Quispamsis, in both directions following the crash. Westbound lanes were partially reopened Friday afternoon. One eastbound lane reopened late Wednesday. “Travelers are advised to reduce speed and be alert to highway signage at the cleanup site,” reads a Wednesday night update from EMO. Earlier this week, officials said fuel from the crash spilled into a tributary of the Hammond River and a nearby wetland. Nova Scotia-based Seaboard Liquid Carriers Ltd. was identified as the responsible party and will foot the cleanup bill.
