Moncton, N.B., is set to get a new school that will accommodate students from kindergarten to Grade 8. The new school will accommodate more than 990 students, combining Sunny Brae Middle School, which has students in grades five through eight, and Forest Glen School, which has students from kindergarten to Grade 4. “Bringing these two school communities together into a modern, purpose-built learning environment allows us to better support teaching and learning in ways that reflect today’s classrooms,” said Randolph MacLean, superintendent of Anglophone East School District. The New Brunswick government says it is spending $96.5 million on the new school, which will be in the Fairview Knoll area. “This new school will give students in Moncton’s east end a modern, well-equipped place to learn,” said Education and Early Childhood Development Minister Claire Johnson. “Bringing kindergarten-to-Grade 8 students together under one roof will help create a strong sense of community, where younger students can learn from older ones. It’s a space where students can grow, connect and succeed.” The school will include amenities such as a stage, a performing arts room, gyms and change rooms. “This area is growing, and this school will help accommodate that growth,” said Transportation and Infrastructure Minister Chuck Chiasson. “The design phase is underway, and I look forward to working with the Department of Education and Early Childhood Development to build a school that meets the needs of the community.” The new school is set to be built on the site of Forest Glen School on Keenan Drive, with construction set to begin in 2027, and opening by September 2030.
