An 18-year-old man has been charged following a lengthy police operation in Saint John, N.B. Police were first called to a residence on Wright Street around 11:45 p.m. Thursday. Police said a man had barricaded himself inside with a gun. The street was closed while police were on scene. People living in the area were told to stay inside their homes. Police said the man surrendered shortly before 12:30 p.m. Friday after approximately 12 hours of negotiations. The accused appeared in court Friday and was charged for having possession of a firearm for a dangerous purpose. Police said he remains in custody pending a bail hearing Monday.
