A 30-year-old Nova Scotian man serving time in a New Brunswick federal prison has been charged in connection to an investigation into child sexual abuse and exploitation material, according to RCMP. Police say the investigation began in December 2023 after they received information from the federal prison that a phone had been seized from an inmate. According to a news release on Monday, police executed a search warrant to search a cellphone on Feb. 14, 2024. Following the investigation, 30-year-old Jeremy Christian Thompson from Nova Scotia was arrested at the federal prison while serving time for a previous sentence. Thompson was charged with possession of child abuse and exploitation material on Oct. 2, 2024. He was found guilty in March, according to police. This month, Thompson was sentenced to three years in prison and is ordered to register with the National Sex Offender Registry for life and to provide a DNA sample. “Following his release from prison, he will have to abide by conditions set out by the court for a period of 20 years,” read the news release.
