Inmate assaulted in New Brunswick prison

An inmate was the victim of assault at Atlantic Institution, a maximum-security federal prison in Renous, N.B.

The injured inmate was transported to an outside hospital for treatment after being evaluated by staff, said a news release from Correctional Service Canada. They have since returned to the institution.

The assailant was identified and “appropriate actions have been taken,” said the release.

RCMP are investigating the incident.

Correctional Services said it will review the incident to improve practices and prevent similar incidents.
