The province of New Brunswick says people at high risk of severe illness from COVID-19 can get a booster shot this spring. A second dose of the most recent vaccine will be available for residents beginning April 7. Public Health says its recommendations for the spring dose aligns with guidance from the National Advisory Committee on Immunization. Those eligible for the shot include: The spring booster campaign will end on June 26 to not interfere with fall COVID-19 vaccinations. Public Health recommends at least three months between doses. The department says anyone who did not receive a COVID-19 vaccine during the latest respiratory illness season can still get one dose. “Staying up to date with COVID-19 vaccination remains one of the most effective ways to protect yourself and those around you from severe illness,” said Dr. Yves Léger, the province’s chief medical officer of health, in a news release Monday. “While vaccines continue to offer strong protection, evidence shows immunity can diminish over time, particularly for older adults and those at higher risk. With COVID-19 still circulating, we encourage eligible New Brunswickers to receive their spring booster.” Appointments for the booster shot will be available to book beginning this Saturday.
