18-year-old charged with aggravated assault following stabbing: N.B. RCMP

An 18-year-old from Esgenoopetitj First Nation, N.B., has been charged following a stabbing in the community.

Neguac RCMP received reports of an assault with a weapon at a business in Esgenoopetitj First Nation on Sunday around 3:22 a.m.

When they arrived, police learned an 18-year-old man and 36-year-old man had gotten into an altercation. The 36-year-old man was stabbed and taken to hospital with serious injuries.

The 18-year-old fled the scene before police arrived.

Keaton Mitchell was arrested on Tuesday and appeared in Miramichi provincial court on Wednesday.

Mitchell was charged with aggravated assault and possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose in connection with the incident.

An investigation is ongoing.
