Weather statement issued for possible snowy roads in northern Nova Scotia

CTV Atlantic meteorologist Kalin Mitchell shares why the Maritimes is stuck in a pattern of chilly, damp, and in some spots snowy, November weather.

As temperatures fall and rain continues to come down in northern Nova Scotia tonight it may turn to an accumulating snowfall at higher terrain.

Environment Canada issued a weather statement Thursday afternoon cautioning that the mountainous areas between Springhill and the Mount Thom area (Cumberland and Colchester Counties) could see a snowfall of up to 10 cm into early Friday morning.

The snow potentially leading to slick roads where they climb into higher elevations. The weather agency mentioning that “motorists should be prepared for winter driving conditions.” shoAt lower elevations, a mix of rain and wet snow is more likely.

The statement also advises that total rain amounts for Cumberland, Colchester and Pictou Counties could total 20-to-40 mm by early Friday morning.

The mixed precipitation is expected to taper to a lighter mix of showers and flurries between 8 a.m. and noon on Friday.
