Warm and muggy air is fueling the development of isolated thunderstorms in the Maritimes Tuesday afternoon. Severe thunderstorm watches were issued for parts of western Nova Scotia, southeastern New Brunswick and Prince Edward Island. The situation with thunderstorms changes quickly and you should have a way to check on the latest weather alerts issued. That can be through weather.gc.ca or the WeatherCAN app. The most thunderstorm action has so far been near the Annapolis Valley, N.S., and in Prince County, P.E.I. There will also be a risk of isolated thunderstorms in northern and western areas of New Brunswick afternoon through early evening. Hazards with the thunderstorms will include lightning and downpours. The downpours can create difficult driving conditions as they reduce visibility and cause hydroplaning conditions on roads. Thunderstorms are expected to end through the evening as the region loses daytime heating.
