Not a total washout, but periods of soggy weather expected on Victoria Day weekend

There were a few record-breaking days for heat this week. However, bouts of May heat can be short lived in the Maritimes. The region was already cloudier and cooling on Friday with that trend set to continue into the long weekend.

Saturday cloudy, but may be the driest of the weekend

Saturday morning starts cloudy with patchy fog and drizzle in the region, remaining mostly cloudy into the afternoon with possible breaks of sunshine. Some off and on showers are expected along the border of New Brunswick and Maine.

A breezy south and southeast wind, sustained 10-to-20 km/h with occasional gusts of 20-to-40 km/h.

High temperatures reach the mid-to-high teens except low-to-mid teens on the coast. On the plus side, the cloudier and cooler conditions may make it easier for participants of Blue Nose Marathon events in Halifax, on Saturday.

Periods of rain, showers, and drizzle Sunday

A sprawling area of low pressure moving out of Ontario and into Quebec and the Maritimes brings periods of wet weather on Sunday.

Rain, drizzle and fog for the province of New Brunswick. Rain totals of 10-to-20 mm except pockets of 20-40 mm in central and northwestern areas.

Periods of showery or drizzly weather for both Nova Scotia and P.Ed.I. Rain totals expected to mostly range two-to-10 with possible pockets of 10-20 mm. There is a general risk of occasional downpours within the wet weather across the Maritimes on Sunday.

The wind is mostly southeast and east with sustained 10-to-20 km/h and gusts of 20-to-40 km/h.

High temperatures in the low-to-mid teens expect as cool as seven-to-12 degrees in eastern parts of the region. For Blue Nose Marathon runners plan on cloudier, cooler, and soggier conditions. The easterly wind will funnel up Halifax Harbour so blustery conditions are likely for stretches of the race that climb the bridge.

Showery weather persists into Monday

The centre of the low pressure system is expected to move to a position near southwestern Nova Scotia by Monday morning.

That will likely keep rounds of showers circulating across the Maritimes on Monday. The most widespread and persistent wet weather will be most likely around northern New Brunswick, P.E.I., and eastern Nova Scotia.

Monday is set to be the coolest day of the long weekend, most high temperatures will range from the high single digits into the low-teens. Wind will be more variable in direction across the Maritimes but sustained 10-to-20 km/h with gusts of 20-to-40 km/h. Breezy to blustery for most areas.
