For most of the Maritimes, Thursday will be the final day of a hot June stretch before temperatures start to moderate Friday for the weekend. More heat Thursday A ridge of heat will still be over the region on Thursday. Once again communities not directly on the coast will reach high temperatures in the mid-to-high 20s and in some cases low 30s. For the Bay of Fundy coastline of New Brunswick and Atlantic coastline of Nova Scotia, a wind off the ocean waters may keep the high temperatures in the high-teens and low 20’s. Temperatures will also come down a few degrees in parts of southwestern Nova Scotia. The reason for that is a round of passing showers that will move through Thursday morning. There is a risk of a downpour or small thunderstorm within those showers. They should be clear of the province by around noon on Thursday. A cooling wind Change comes on Friday as a high-pressure system becomes centred over Labrador. The system directs a cooler northeast wind into parts of the Maritimes. Eastern areas of the region will experience the cool effect the most. Highs in Prince Edward Island, eastern New Brunswick, and eastern Nova Scotia will be brought down in the teens and low 20s. Hot spot hold outs on Friday will include communities in western New Brunswick and interior areas of southwestern Nova Scotia. Those areas will be sheltered from the direct cooling effect of the northeast wind and will still likely have some highs in the mid-to-high 20s. The convergence of the northeast wind on land will bring some clouds and a low chance of showers. It’s not the greatest setup for thunderstorms but there is a low risk that any occurring showers could develop into a small thunderstorm. Weekend showers More showers are expected on the weekend. A weather front will push showers into New Brunswick Saturday morning. The showers reaching P.E.I. and Nova Scotia Saturday afternoon and evening. Rain amounts of 5-to-10 mm except pockets of 10-to-20 mm in northern and western areas of New Brunswick. A second weather front returns showers to New Brunswick Sunday evening and night. Those showers will clear across Nova Scotia and P.E.I. Monday morning. Rain amounts of 2-to-5 mm except 5-10 mm in parts of western New Brunswick.
