Early March snowfall may make for snowy, slippery roads Wednesday morning

CTV meteorologist Kalin Mitchell is tracking a fast-moving weather system that will bring snow to parts of the Maritimes Tuesday night into Wednesday.

A fast-moving low-pressure system out of the northeastern United States will move along the Atlantic coastline of Nova Scotia Tuesday night through Wednesday morning.

Snow will develop in southwestern areas of New Brunswick and southwestern Nova Scotia Tuesday from 9 p.m. to midnight. The snow develops quickly across southern New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, and Prince Edward Island overnight. Lighter flurries are expected in northern New Brunswick.

Nova Scotia, eastern P.E.I., and the Bay of Fundy area of New Brunswick should expect slippery, snow-covered roads for Wednesday morning.

Even with some rain mixing with the snow, much of Nova Scotia can expect 5-to-15 cm of snowfall. Parts of eastern P.E.I. and the Bay of Fundy area of New Brunswick will pick up 5-to-10 cm of snow. The remainder of the Maritimes will see 5 cm or less.

The mix of snow and rain will be clearing northeast of the region quickly Wednesday morning. Even Cape Breton should be out of the snow by around 10 a.m. Wednesday.

The afternoon will see a mix of sun and cloud, with high temperatures climbing into a range of 3-to-8 degrees. Much of the freshly fallen snow should melt during the day.

Overnight winter parking ban

The Halifax Regional Municipality says the overnight winter parking ban will be enforced from 1 a.m. to 6 a.m. Wednesday in both Zone 1 – Central and Zone 2 – Non-Central to allow crews to properly clear streets and sidewalks.
