MANALAPAN, Fla. -- U.S. President Barack Obama says he is "shocked and saddened" by a deadly mass shooting at a Colorado movie theatre. He is urging the nation to "come together as one American family."

Obama calls the shooting "horrific and tragic" and says his administration will do everything it can to support the people of Aurora, Colorado.

A gunman opened fire early Friday at the theatre on the opening night of the latest Batman movie. Authorities say 14 people were killed and at least 50 were injured.

Obama was in Florida at the time of the shooting.

Republican challenger Mitt Romney said in a statement that he and his wife, Ann, were "deeply saddened by the news of the senseless violence."
