OSLO, Norway -- A Norwegian woman at the centre of a Dubai rape dispute has returned to Norway.

Marte Deborah Dalelv was sentenced to 16 months in prison by a court in the Persian Gulf state after she had gone to police to report that she had been raped by a co-worker after having cocktails. The 24-year-old Norwegian was held in custody for four days and convicted for extra-marital sex and alcohol consumption.

Dubai authorities eventually decided to pardon Dalelv, likely in the hope of avoiding a public relations backlash and a possible tourist boycott.

Arriving in Norway on Wednesday, Dalelv told the NRK news agency that she was happy to be home and looked forward to eating pork again.
