MORRO BAY, Calif. -- As marriage proposals go, Michael Banks' was a cliff-hanger.

Banks, 27, scaled 600-foot Morro Rock in California on Thursday to propose to his girlfriend, who was watching via cellphone video.

The good news: Banks' girlfriend said yes, Morro Bay fire Capt. Todd Gailey said.

The bad news: Banks got stuck and had to be plucked off by helicopter. He was not hurt.

Authorities said Banks returned to the rock formation hours later and was found to be high on methamphetamine. He was arrested on suspicion of possessing methamphetamine, Morro Bay Fire Chief Steve Knuckles said.

Banks has been booked into jail and wasn't available for comment.

Climbing on Morro Rock is banned, but some go anyway, and there have been several fatal falls over the years.
