HILLSBORO BEACH, Fla. -- Officials say more than a dozen people believed to be from Haiti have come ashore in Florida.
Hillsboro Beach Police Maj. Jay Szesnat says nearby residents alerted them that the group of migrants, including some children, were on the beach early Monday. One woman was found dead in the surf, a second was taken to a hospital, and 17 were turned over to U.S. Customs and Border Protection.
Another man was found in nearby Boca Raton and was taken into custody.
The Miami Herald reports that it was not clear how they got to shore because no boat was found.
Officials say there is no correlation "at this point" to four bodies found floating in the water off Hollywood Beach on Sunday.
