Police in Washington State have found the abandoned vehicles of a B.C. woman and her American husband, who were both reported missing earlier this week.

The Snohomish County Sheriff's Office says the vehicles belonging to Patrick Shunn and his wife, Monique Patenaude, were found in a remote, wooded area a short drive away from their home in Arlington, Wash. The Land Rover and the Jeep Wrangler appeared to have "gone over an embankment and are located in the same general area of each other," investigators said in a news release on Thursday.

Police said at the time that they have not yet investigated the interiors of the vehicles.

Shunn, 45, and his Canadian wife Patenaude, 46, were last seen on Monday, police said. Neighbours last saw Patenaude near the couple's home on the 27800 block of Whitman Road, in Arlington, at approximately 1 p.m. Shunn was last seen at work in Kirkland, Wash., an approximate 75-minute drive away. He did not show up at work the next day, police said.

Shunn's brother, Erik Shunn, said in a Facebook post on Wednesday that he has a "bad gut feeling" about the situation. The post was written before the vehicles were found. "I really hope I am wrong. But you can't deny the circumstances," he said.

Erik Shunn said his brother met Patenaude at a Burning Man festival, and the two were married shortly after. "I try to never give up and I absolutely will not on my brother and his amazing wife Monique," he wrote.

Court records show the couple was named in a legal dispute. A hearing date was cancelled on April 7.
